경섭이 집에서 나오다가 버스 안에서 심심 할 것 같아 빌려간다며 책 한권을 들고나왔다. 읽어 본다고 하면서 미뤘던 책이었다.

"만일 그래다 어느 연금술 실험실에 있는 거라면, 아마도 지금이 에메랄드 판을 연구하기에 가장 적저한 순간일 것이네. 하지만 그대는 지금 사막에 있으니, 차라리 사막 속에 깊이 잠겨보게. 사막이 그대에게 깨달음을 줄 걸세. 사실 이 땅 위에 있는 거라면 무엇이든 그대에게 깨달음을 주겠지만 말이지. 사막을 이해하려고 할 필요는 없네. 모래 알갱이 하나를 들여다보기만 해도, 마음 속에서 천지창조의 모든 경이를 볼 수 있을 것이니." p208

스페인 양치기인 산티아고가 보물을 찾는 꿈을 꾼다. 그 보물은 이집트의 피라미드에 있고 그것을 찾기 위해 여행한다. 여행중 경험하고 그 가운데 진리들을 발견한다.
마지막 보물이 무엇일까 궁금하여 늦은 밤 들어와 읽고 잤다. 생각하고 행동하지 않았다면 얻지 못했을것이다.

행동하고 감사하라. 지금의 환경에 적응하고 내가 살아 온 환경과 다르다하여 불평하며 시간이 보내지 마라. 어떤 일이든 그곳에서 배울 수 있는 점이 있다. 마음 먹었다면 행동하라.

믿음의 귀한 삶을 사는 이용규 선교사의 모습이 부럽다. 나도 할 수 있다. 하지만 그 용기를 내지 못하고 그저 부럽다고만 한다. 내가 지금 얻는 평안은 하나님께 내려놓음으로 인해 얻는 게 아니라 생각하지 않으므로 채우려는 마음일 것이다.
광야에서의 삶이 어떤 의미인지 안다. 영국에서의 삶의 모습들이 이용규 선교사가 겪었던 광야의 삶과 같았다. 늘 하나님께서 입혀주시고 재워주셨던 삶들을 기억한다. 그때의 모습을 지금은 만들어가지 못하고 있다. 왜일까? 풍요로움 때문이 아닐까? 풍요로움으로 인한 게으름을 벗어버리고 광야에서의 삶을 살아가는 모습으로 바꿔야하겠다.

로마인 이야기 전 15권을 읽고 싶을 정도로 이 책에 빠져들었다. 1000년의 세월을 한 권에 담기는 무리일 것이다. 그러나 중요한 인물들과 로마가 변화를 시도하는 시간들을 잘 구분해서 써 놓았기 때문에 역사서 같다고 할 수 있겠다.

로마가 어떻게 그 큰 땅을 지배하고 다스렸는지 대답은 간단하다. 책에서 몇 번이나 언급한 "패자마저도 자신들에게 동화시킨다" 이다. 점령지을 식민지로 만드는 것이 아니라 로마 사람과 동등하게 대해주었기 때문에 로마가 지속되지 않았나 싶다. 또한 큰 위기 앞에서 위기를 모면 할 수 있는 변화의 사람들이었기 때문이다. 계급간 갈등이 생겼을 때 위기를 겪고 나서 정책과 제도를 뒤엎어 같이 살아 갈 수 있는 방향을 제시하는 로마인들의 결단이 대단하다.

발전 할 수 없는 체제였을 것 같으면서도 발전과 평화를 거듭 해 온 로마인들의 모습이 대단하다. 적절할 때 적절한 체제변환으로 이끈 사람들의 처세술은 배워야 할 점이다. 우리나라가 배워야 할 점이 많은 것 같다.

다른 사람을 포용 할 수 있는 마음과 자세로 사람들을 동화시키는 사람이어야 하겠다.

셀원이 교보문고에서 보였다. 리더인 중근 형이 책 한 권씩 골라 가져오라며 책을 사줬다. 방언은 즐겁다 이후 방언에 대해 더 알고 싶어 졌다. 그래서 골랐다.

방언은 즐겁다에서는 삶의 모습을 그려지기는 했지만 마음속에 다가오지 않았다. 이 책에서는 김우현 PD의 체험을 통해 얻은 방언의 유익에 대해 간증을 잘 해 주었다.

누구나 방언의 씨앗을 가지고 있다. 하지만 그 씨앗을 터트려 키울 수 있느냐의 자신의 사모함에 달렸다. 성령님은 우리가 방언을 말 하도록 하는 보혜사이다.
' 저희가 다 성령의 충만함을 받고 성령이 말하게 하심을 따라 다른 방언으로 말하기를 시작하니라 ' 사도행전 2:4

방언이 어떤건지 자세히 몰랐다. 어떻게 해야 되는지도 몰랐다. 내가 알아 들을 수 없는 말이 나올 때는 하지 않았었다. 그게 방언인지 조차 모르고 있던 것이다.
' 방언을 말하는 자는 사람에게 하지 아니하고 하나님께 하나니 이는 알아듣느 자가 없고 그 영으로 비밀을 말함이니라 ' 고린도전서 14:2

방언의 유익은 끝이없다. 성령의 역사가 마가 다락방 시대에만 일어 나는 일이 아니다. 성령을 믿고 의지하고 그분이 하라는 데로 한다면 가능하다. 그 통로가 방언이라 말한다. 하루 한 시간이상 방언으로 기도 해 보라 권한다. 방언으로 기도를 시도 해 보지 않았다. 내가 원할 때 언제든지 방언이 나오지 않는다. 제대로 된 방언을 하고싶다. 성령님과의 교제가 깊어지고 싶다.

책 제목에 아인슈타인 이름이 나오기 때문에 그의 전기인 것처럼 들리나 이 책은 자연과학의 발달 과정과 상대성 이론에 대해 서술하였다. 상대성 이론에 대한 이해를 돕도록 쉽게 이야기 했다. 아인슈타인이 천재임을 확실히 인식하게 되었다. 지금도 그렇겠지만 그 시대 상상하지도 못 할 이론을 만들어 냈기 때문이다. 과학은 수학을 가지고 시작된 것이 아니라 자연현상을 주의 깊게 관찰하는 과정에서 가설이 만들어 지고 수학을 통해 수식으로 증명되어 진것다. 과학을 이해하기 위해서는 수학이라는 도구가 필요 한 것이 아니라 수학적 사고가 필요하다고 본다.

읽던 중 갈릴레이의 처세술이 대단했음을 알 수 있다. 처음 망원경을 입수 했을 때 적을 멀리서 발견 할 수 있다는 병기임을 강조며 시의원들에게 가져다 주며 망원경을 개발 할 수 있도록 연구자금을 받았다. 그 돈을 큰 망원경을 제작에 투자하여 천체관측에 열중했다. 또한 일반적으로 우리가 알고 있는 피사의 사탑에 올라 갔다는 이야기는 사실이 아니다. 그의 친구를 올려 보내 등가성원칙을 테스트 하게했다. 실패했을 경우 그의 명성에 영향을 줄 것이기 때문에 그리 했을 것이다. 종교재판 이야기 또한 잘 알고 있다.

수학과 물리학의 지식 없어도 상대성 이론을 이해 할 수 있도록 잘 설명되어 있으니 재밌게 읽은 책이라 하겠다.

-인간은 3차원적 생물이 아니라 시간을 느끼고 있기 때문에 4차원적 생물이다 라고 이야기한다.

책 을 사 놓은지 두달. 나중에 읽겠다며 빌려주고 하다보니 이제서야 읽었다. 시골 내려가는 버스 안에서 단숨에 읽었다.

역시나 베르베르의 책 닯게 상상력이 뛰어나다. 읽다보면 불가능 할 것 같은 내용이기에 웃고 말았지만 시간이 지나고 나면 가능 할 것도 같은 이야기다.

파멸을 향해가는 지구를 떠나 새로이 정착 할 별을 찾아 여행하는 동안 나타나는 인간의 내면 모습은 성악설을 생각하게 한다. 지구가 만들어지고 나서부터 지금까지의 역사의 축소판을 우주선 안에서도 일어난다. 인간의 내면의 세계를 바꿔 보자며 떠난 여행은 마지막까지 바꾸지 못하고 새로운 지구를 만든다. 바꾸려고 하지만 바뀌지 않은 모습속에서 인간이란 어쩔 수 없는 존재인가? 라는 질문을 던지게한다.

마지막은 아담과 이브로 마무리를 짓는다. 우리 지구도 이와 같이 아담과 이브가 탄생 했을까 라는 상상을 해 보았다.

3일만에 읽었다. 결말이 궁금했다. 중간정도 읽었을 때 어디서 많이 본 듯한 이야기였다. 영화로 본 듯한 기억이 난다. 두오모에서 둘이 만났던 영화 장면이 기억난다. 그것 외에는 기억이 없다. 아오이가 느꼈던 감정을 이해하기 보다는 이들이 만났을 때 어떤 생각을 갖고 있었을까 라는 결말이 더 궁금했다.
3일간의 만남이 끝나고 나서 기차를 타고 다시 돌아왔던 아오이를 보며 왜 저렇게 해야 했을까라는 생각을 하게 됬다. 작가는 무슨 생각으로 이렇게 결말을 내었을까? 왜 이렇게 이야기를 써야 했을까? 내가 너무 결말에만 집중하고 있는 것인가?
차근차근 아오이가 갖고있던 생각과, 삶의 모습을 생각해 보았다. 나만의 사고로 아오이의 사랑을 판단하고 있는 것인지 모르겠다. 마빈이 아오이에게 했던 말이 생각난다. 나는 너의 삶의 아무런 영향도 주지 못하잖아. 마빈을 사랑한다고 말했던 아이오는 옛사랑을 잊지 못하고 기다리고 있다. 그런 마음을 알았을 마빈의 마음은 얼마나 답답했을까?
모르겠다. 무엇을 이야기 하고 있는지. 왜 마빈과 헤어졌다고 말하지 못하고, 앞으로 계속 같이 있자고 말하지 못하고 되돌아 왔을까. 아직 남자의 이야기를 읽어보지 않아서 모르는 것일까. 냉정과 열정사이 - blue 도 읽어보고 사랑에 대해 어떻게 이야기 하는지 생각해 봐야겠다.
